OLI:
Lincoln East | 5-3 | OLI – vs. Lincoln Southeast
Lincoln Southeast | 5-3 | NR – at Lincoln East

Comments: Creighton Prep drops to No. 5 after its 52-20 loss to No. 2 Omaha Westside and being the last unbeaten domino to fall. Westside has knocked off two unbeaten teams in back-to-back weeks by a combined score of 110-37. Omaha Central falls to No. 7 after a seven-point loss to Millard North, who jumps in at No. 10 this week. Kearney returns at No. 9 after a shutout win over Columbus.

Class B

  1. Waverly | 8-0 | 1 – at Lincoln Pius X
  2. Bennington | 7-1 | 3 – at No. 6 Elkhorn North (Thurs.)
  3. Norris | 7-1 | 2 – at Elkhorn
  4. Gretna East | 7-1 | 4 – vs. No. 9 Gretna
  5. Skutt Catholic | 6-2 | 5 – vs. Blair
  6. Elkhorn North | 6-2 | 6 – vs. No. 2 Bennington (Thurs.)
  7. Seward | 6-2 | 7 – vs. Crete
  8. Scottsbluff | 7-1 | 8 – vs. York
  9. Gretna | 5-3 | 9 – at No. 4 Gretna East
  10. McCook | 6-2 | 10 – at Lexington

OLI:
Gering | 6-2 | OLI – vs. Hastings

Comments: Waverly outdueled Norris 45-42 with a late field goal in Week 8 and holds on to the top spot as the lone unbeaten left in Class B. Bennington leaps Norris into the second spot, with the Titans dropping to No. 3. Bennington’s only loss of the season was 21-19 to Waverly in Week 1. Elkhorn North sticks at No. 6 despite dropping two games in a row. It will not get easier for the Wolves in Week 9 when it hosts Bennington on CW Omaha’s Thursday Night Lights.

Class C-1

  1. Wahoo | 8-0 | 1 – at Omaha Concordia
  2. Central City | 8-0 | 2 – at Aurora
  3. Ashland-Greenwood | 7-1 | 3 – at Gross Catholic
  4. Columbus Lakeview | 8-0 | 4 – vs. No. 6 O’Neill
  5. Sidney | 8-0 | 5 – vs. Chadron
  6. O’Neill | 8-0 | 6 – at No. 4 Columbus Lakeview
  7. Syracuse | 8-0 | 9 – at Wilber-Clatonia
  8. Mount Michael | 6-2 | 7 – vs. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder
  9. Fort Calhoun | 6-2 | 8 – at Douglas County West
  10. Gothenburg | 7-1 | 10 – at Broken Bow

OLI:
Aurora | 5-3 | OLI – vs. No. 2 Central City
Gross Catholic| 6-2 | OLI – vs. No. 3 Ashland-Greenwood
Pierce | 5-3 | OLI – vs. Schuyler

Comments: Mount Michael and Fort Calhoun both fall one spot in order to make room for unbeaten Syracuse. Why is Syracuse all the way down at No. 7? Its best win of the season came in Week 1 over Milford (5-3) and it has only two wins against teams with a .500 record or better. It also doesn’t help that the Rockets are one of six unbeaten teams remaining in Class C-1. One of the most intriguing games in Week 9 statewide will be Aurora’s visit to No. 2 Central City. The Huskies have won five straight and have improved steadily as the season has gone on. It’s going to definitely be one to keep an eye on.

Class C-2

  1. Cedar Catholic | 8-0 | 2 – at No. 2 Norfolk Catholic
  2. Norfolk Catholic | 7-1 | 1 – vs. No. 1 Cedar Catholic
  3. Archbishop Bergan | 7-1 | 5 – vs. Arlington
  4. Kearney Catholic | 8-0 | 3 – vs. Valentine
  5. Malcolm | 6-2 | 6 – vs. Lincoln Lutheran
  6. Bishop Neumann | 7-1 | 7 – vs. Raymond Central
  7. Ord | 5-3 | 8 – vs. No. 9 Boone Central
  8. Grand Island Central Catholic | 7-1 | 9 – vs. St. Paul
  9. Boone Central | 5-3 | 4 – at No. 7 Ord
  10. Doniphan-Trumbull | 7-1 | 10 – at Wood River

OLI:
Lincoln Lutheran | 6-2 | OLI – at No. 5 Malcolm
West Point-Beemer | 5-3 | OLI – Idle (FF win over Oakland-Craig)
Wood River | 7-1 | OLI – vs. No. 10 Doniphan-Trumbull
Yutan | 6-2 | OLI – at North Bend Central

Comments: Still not quite sure what to make of all this. There is a surprising result almost every week, just as some of the close games for the top teams are just as much of a surprise. Cedar Catholic jumps over Norfolk Catholic into No. 1 because, sure. Why not? It will be decided in Week 9 as the two teams meet. Archbishop Bergan jumps over Kearney Catholic into No. 3 despite Kearney Catholic’s unbeaten record. Definitely keep an eye on No. 7 Ord to make a ton of noise in the playoffs. The bracket will be key for the Chanticleers. Boone Central falls to No. 9 after being shutout by No. 8 Grand Island Central Catholic despite being without All-State running back candidate Brogan Benes.

Class D-1 (Playoff Bracket)

  1. Dundy County-Stratton | 8-0 | 1 – vs. Elkhorn Valley

  9. Pender | 7–1 | OLI– vs. Mead
  10. Wausa/Osmond | 7-1 | OLI – vs. Summerland

Dropped Out:
Bloomfield | 6-2 | 5 – at Sutton
Lourdes Central Catholic | 6-2 | 8 – vs. West Point GACC

OLI
Hartington-Newcastle | 6-2 | NR – at Wisner-Pilger
Johnson-Brock | 6-2 | NR – vs. North Platte St. Patrick’s
North Platte St. Patrick’s | 6′-2 | NR – at Johnson-Brock
Sutton | 6-2 | OLI – vs. Bloomfield

Comments: Heading into the opening round of the playoffs, there are some first round games that could go either way. Bloomfield falls out after a lopsided loss to Hartington-Newcastle. Despite heading on the road to face Wisner-Pilger (6-2) in the first round, Hartington-Newcastle remains an interesting team to watch. Pender comes in at No. 9 with its only blemish of the season being a 29-26 loss to No. 6 Plainview in Week 1. Wausa/Osmond also returns to the Top 10 at No. 10 and is battle-tested. Lourdes Central Catholic dumps out after a 28-22 loss to Johnson-Brock (6-2).

  1. Howells-Dodge | 8-0 | 2 – vs. Hyannis

  9. Elmwood-Murdock | 7-1 | 9 – vs. Bancroft-Rosalie
  10. Loomis | 6-2 | OLI – vs. Cambridge

Dropped Out:
Overton | 5-3 | 10 – vs. Elgin/Pope John

OLI:
BDS | 6-2 | NR – vs. Burwell
Mullen | 7-1 | OLI – vs. Maxwell
Sandhills/Thedford | 6-2 | OLI – vs. Winside

Comments: Howells-Dodge and Archangels Catholic swap places atop the Class D-2 Top 10 after Howells-Dodge handed Archangels its first loss of the season, 40-32. Loomis has been a yo-yo team when it comes to the Top 10 ratings and reenters at No. 10 before its rematch with Cambridge in round one.

Class D-6

  1. Garden County | 7-0 | 1 – at Creek Valley (Thurs.)
  2. Stuart | 6-1 | 2 – at Ansley-Litchfield
  3. Red Cloud | 7-0 | 3 – at Pawnee City
  4. Southwest | 7-0 | 5 – at Paxton (Thurs.)
  5. Wallace | 6-1 | 6 – at No. 7 S-E-M
  6. Silver Lake | 5-2 | 7 – at Harvard
  7. S-E-M | 5-2 | 4 – vs. No. 5 Wallace
  8. Leyton | 6-1 | 8 – at Shelton
  9. Hampton | 6-1 | 10 – at Santee
  10. Arthur County | 5-2 | OLI – vs. Hay Springs

Dropped Out:
Pawnee City | 5-2 | 9 – vs. No. 3 Red Cloud

OLI:
Potter-Dix | 4-3 | NR – vs. South Platte (Thurs.)

Comments: Southwest is one of three remaining unbeaten teams and moves up to No. 4 after its win over S-E-M. Pawnee City is replaced by Arthur County in the Top 10. S-E-M gets a chance to raise its stock heading into the postseason against No. 5 Wallace this week.
