Thomalla

Millard South
Millard South has been ranked No. 1 in nearly every poll statewide all season as it has won 11 straight games against in-state competition after falling to Basha (AZ) in the season opener. An offense juggernaut averaging 52.8 points per game despite missing six quarters of action due to forfeits, the Patriots have been as advertised and are deemed worthy of every inch of press it has received in 2024.

Junior Jett Thomalla continues to put up impressive numbers with a state leading 3,444 passing yards and 44 touchdowns while completing 70.3 percent of his passes. Junior Gabe Prucha provides a physical option out of the backfield who will flat out run defenders over, leading the team with 853 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. The wide receiver room is about as impressive as anybody around here has ever seen with Florida State pledge Chase Loftin leading the team with 54 receptions for 811 yards and 12 touchdowns. Junior Amarion Jackson is second on the team with 733 yards, while elite-level junior tight end prospect Isaac Jensen and Aamir Hill also have more than 500 receiving yards. The offensive line is deep and talented led by juniors Landen Von Seggern (6’4/280) and Carter Glab (6’3/265).

Millard South’s linebacking corps has been impressive with junior Teagan Urban leading the team with 69 tackles and 16.5 tackles for loss despite missing multiple games. Junior Daxton Williams recorded 68 tackles and 12.5 tackles for loss, while Air Force verbal commitment Adam Pugh and junior Solomon Baker are tied for the team lead the Patriots with 13 tackles for loss. Junior elite-level prospect DaShawn Prince has two interceptions as a player to keep an eye on in the secondary.

Jenkins

Omaha Westside
Omaha Westside has been on quite the run. Over the past six seasons, the Warriors are 71-5, have won three state championships, and have been to the state championship game in each season. There has not been a rebuild in quite some time, with newcomers stepping up big time despite tough shoes to fill. Omaha Westside has turned to a pair of sophomore on offense to hint at that the amazing run might continue a little longer.

The sophomores are none other than Braylen Warren, who has 2,053 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in his debut as a varsity starter. Tay Tay Jenkins was one of the biggest surprises in the state with a Class A leading 1,879 yards and 21 touchdowns in a breakout campaign. Keynan Cotton leads a loaded wide receiver room with 40 receptions for 688 yards and 10 scores while junior Eli Johnson comes into the title game with 33 receptions for 500 yards and 10 touchdowns. Connor Wane and junior Owen James anchor the offensive line.

Nebraska commit and Navy All-American Bowl honoree Christian Jones leads the defense. Jones has recorded 88 tackles, four tackles for loss, and an interception this season. Junior defensive back Reid McIntyre leads the Warriors in tackles with 99 tackles while junior linebacker Quinton Warren has 55 tackles to his credit to go along with six tackles for loss and four interceptions. Junior Bryson Williams, a 6’4 defensive back, is emerging into a potential FBS prospect with his 63 tackles and three interceptions.

Pick: Omaha Westside
– This is a difficult one to call. More than likely neutrals from around the state will side with the high-flying Patriots. With the temperature being the coldest of the season thus far, it could slightly disrupt the passing game. If there is a defense that can slow down Millard South’s offense, it would be Omaha Westside’s. If there is an offense capable of moving the football successfully on Millard South’s defense, it would be Omaha Westside’s. When coming down to a pick in the game, it came down to Westside’s record in recent championship games. – Scott Hansen
