Player of the Week
Tony Palmer | South Sioux City | RB – Palmer rushed for 390 yards and tied a Class A state record with seven touchdowns in a 49-26 victory over Sioux City West. A highly competitive wrestler in the winter, Palmer has put together a fantastic career for the Cardinals. Palmer has 2,819 career rushing yards and 40 rushing touchdowns over his illustrious career.
Team of the Week
Summerland Bobcats – Summerland intercepted a pass in the dying seconds to preserve a 32-28 upset win over then-No. 3 Crofton on Thursday night in Week 2 to become the NEBHSFB.com Team of the Week. Michael Koenig completed 18 of 27 passes for 238 yards and accounted for five touchdowns. Koenig also rushed for 58 yards and another score for Summerland. Sam Cheatum caught seven passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Bobcats on offense. Summerland finished 4-6 last season and lost in the regular season to Crofton, 50-36.
Class A
Marcus Buchanan | Omaha Burke | WR – Buchanan caught 12 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in a 50-15 loss to Creighton Prep.
Kearney Defense: The Bearcats have yet to allow a point this season in its 2-0 start with shutout wins over North Platte and Grand Island. In a 42-0 victory over Grand Island, the Bearcats held the Islanders to 136 total yards and are allowing 143 yards per game over two victories.
Ryan Manning | Lincoln Southwest | QB – Manning threw for three touchdowns in a 35-28 win over North Platte. Presley Hall reeled in two of Manning’s touchdown strikes in the victory for the Spartans.
Griffin Novacek | Kearney | QB – Novacek accounted for four touchdowns in a 42-0 victory over Grand Island.
Omaha Buena Vista – The Bison won their first game in school history, picking up a 34-7 victory over Omaha Benson.
Cole Signor | Norfolk | QB – In a 34-0 win over Bellevue East, Signor completed 19 of 26 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns.
Jett Thomalla | Millard South | QB – Thomalla completed 22 of 31 passes for 395 yards and six touchdowns as No. 2 Millard South handed Millard West its worst loss since 1995. Florida State pledge Chase Loftin caught five passes for 111 yards and two scores in the rout to pace the Patriots.
Braylen Warren | Omaha Westside | QB – The sophomore completed 17 of 26 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-3 win over Columbus. Keynan Cotton caught two of Warren’s touchdown passes in the victory.
Elon Washington | Papillion-La Vista South | WR – Washington caught six passes for 114 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-20 loss to Omaha North.
Class B
Joe Andreasen | Lincoln Pius X | RB – Andreasen rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-28 victory over Blair. On defense, Andreasen contribued six tackles and sack for the Thunderbolts.
Ethan Beachy | Elkhorn North | QB – Beachy threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-0 victory over York. Emerging junior Alex Uchtman caught four passes for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Wolves. Defensively, Elkhorn. North intercepted four passes.
Tristan Campbell | McCook | RB – Campbell rushed for 254 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-14 victory over Aurora. McCook completed one pass for five yards in the victory.
Tresten Hass | Seward | QB – The junior completed 24 of 28 passes for 308 yards and three scores while picking up 69 yards on the ground and another touchdown in a 35-21 victory over Waverly. It was Waverly’s first regular season loss in 15 games.
Rece Knight | Gering | QB – In a 40-26 victory over Mitchell, Knight accounted for 270 yards and rushed for three touchdowns. The Bulldogs are 2-0 this season.
Michael Knudsen | Gretna | QB – Talk a breakout season. Knudsen continued to prove why he should be on more recruiting boards with a Class B single game record of 514 passing yards while accounting for seven touchdowns in a 52-45 win over Norris. Knudsen completed 21 of 29 passes in the victory for the Dragons.
Bryce Lakers | Gretna |WR – The junior set a Class B record with 312 receiving yards on 11 catches, four of them going for touchdowns. The previous Class B record was held by Nate Rogers, who went for 311 yards for South Sioux City in 2012.
Joseph Kolega | Omaha Skutt | WR – Kolega caught four passes for 120 yards and tied a school record with three touchdowns in a 42-0 victory over first-year varsity program Lincoln Standing Bear.
Class C-1
Quinn Bailey | Chadron | RB – Bailey rushed for 313 yards and three touchdowns and added a touchdown reception in a 43-6 over Valentine.
Kelan Bohlen | Douglas County West | QB – Bohlen completed 7 of 9 passes for 225yards and three touchdowns while adding 43 rushing yards in a 42-6 win over Nebraska City. Junior Barrett Hinrichs added three rushing scores for the Falcons.
Robbie Brennan | Omaha Gross | RB – In a 35-0 win over Ralston, Brennan rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns to earn Thursday Night Lights Player of the Game honors.
Kip Brigham | Wahoo | RB – Brigham rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns as No. 1 Wahoo defeated No. 2 Ashland-Greenwood, 28-14.
Landon Hartzog | Holdrege | QB – Hartzog threw for three touchdowns as the Dusters moved to 2-0 on the season with a 43-15 win over Alliance. Josh Janssen caught five passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns for Holdrege in the victory.
Drew Kulus | Omaha Concordia | QB – In a 23-0 victory over Schuyler, Kulus accounted for 220 yards and three touchdowns.
Kaiden Rodriguez | Fort Calhoun | RB – Rodriguez rushed for three touchdowns in a 42-6 victory over Omaha Roncalli.
Noah Shoemaker | Cozad | QB – Shoemaker threw for 391 yards and tied a Class C-1 state record with eight touchdown passes in a 56-55 double overtime win over Central City. NBA player Baylor Scheierman threw for eight scores against Kearney Catholic in 2018 to set the state record. Oliver Davis had nine catches for 148 yards and three touchdowns for the Haymakers.
Sawyer Smith | Ogallala | ATH – Smith rushed for a pair of touchdowns and added a kickoff return for six in a 28-26 victory over Broken Bow.
Clayton Thompson | Columbus Lakeview | QB – Thompson completed 11 of 16 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-9 win over Adams Central.
Asa Wegrzyn | Lincoln Christian | RB – Wegrzyn rushed for three touchdowns in a 55-19 victory over Wilber-Clatonia.
Parker Zikmund | Central City | QB – In a 56-55 double overtime loss to Cozad, Zikmund completed 30 of 49 passes for 477 yards and six touchdowns. Wyatt Dent caught 13 passes for 191 yards and two scores to pace the Bison in a losing effort.
Class C-2
Braylon Anderson | Oakland-Craig | QB – Anderson completed 10 of 13 passes for 305 yards and accounted for seven touchdowns (6 passing, 1 rushing) in a 65-21 win over North Bend Central. Through two games, Anderson is completed 75 percent of his passes for 753 yards and nine touchdowns. Corbin Guill, Jaxen Jorgensen, and Sylas Nelson all caught two touchdown passes in the victory.
Conor Booth | Wahoo Neumann | RB – In a 40-0 win over Yutan, Booth rushed for 259 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries. Booth is committed to Nebraska.
Trevin Grabowski | Centura | RB – Grabowski rushed for three touchdowns in a 52-26 loss to Doniphan-Trumbull.
Jack Poppe | Doniphan-Trumbull | WR – Poppe caught 10 passes for 192 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-26 victory over Centura.
Beau Rohrich | Wood River | RB – Rohrich rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-14 victory over Hershey.
Lincoln Sander | Superior | QB/DB – Sander accounted for three touchdowns in a 27-13 victory over Palmyra and recorded a pair of interceptions to boost the defense.
Austin Scheuler | Fremont Bergan | QB – Scheuler completed 16 of 21 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-20 victory over Ponca. Cale Sheets caught six passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns for the Knights in the win.
Breiton Whitmire | Cedar Catholic | RB – Whitmire rushed for three touchdowns in a 47-6 victory over Wayne.
Eight Man
Hunter Bohling | Humbolt-Table Rock-Steinhauer | RB – Bohling rushed for 275 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-38 win over Omaha Christian Academy.
Kyle Cox | Sandhills/Thedford | QB – The defending Class D-2 state champions survived a scare, turning away Ainsworth 56-54. Cox rushed for 301 yards and four touchdowns while adding 199 through the air and four more scores in the victory.
Wyatt Frey | Lawrence-Nelson | QB – Frey, a 6’5, 210-pound sophomore, ran for 175 yards and five touchdowns while completing 12 of 13 passes for 150 yards and another score in a 58-22 rout of Blue Hill.
Gage Friesen | High Plains | RB – Friesen ran 175 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries in a 51-8 win over Palmer.
Gavin Hardeman | Lyons-Decatur Northeast | RB/LB – In a 61-30 win over Cedar Bluffs, Hardeman rushed for 212 yards and four touchdowns on just 11 carries. Hardeman recorded 25 tackles and two tackles for loss for the Cougars.
Gage Hedstrom | O’Neill St. Mary’s | QB – Hedstrom accounted for 260 total yards and four touchdowns (2 passing and 2 rushing) in a 54-14 victory over Burwell.
Grady Kelley | Central Valley | RB/LB – Kelley ran for 255 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries in a 54-20 victory over West Holt. On defense, Kelley recorded 13 tackles, three tackles for loss, and s sack.
Ryelan Kingston | Pleasanton | RB – In a 61-22 win over Alma, Kingston rushed for 245 yards and two touchdowns.
Owen Kneifl | Pender | RB – Kneifl set a Pender Eight Man record with 285 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries in a 49-42 win over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
Carson McDonald | McCool Junction | QB – McDonald accounted for 413 yards and eight touchdowns in a 68-26 win over Twin River. McDonald rushed for 218 yards and five touchdowns while completing 10 of 13 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns.
Connor Paulsen | South Loup | RB – Paulsen rushed for four touchdowns in a 34-15 win over Hi-Line.
Cole Rosener | Hartington/Newcastle | RB – In a 74-6 win over Wakefield, Rosener only needed nine carries to rushf ro 263 yards and five touchdowns.
Jace Schukar | Loomis | RB – Schuker rushed for three touchdowns in a 46-22 win over Axtell and caught three passes for 59 yards.
Ethan Shaw | Sandy Creek } QB – Shaw accounted for 258 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-6 victory over Shelby-Rising City.
Wyatt Tramp | Crofton | RB – In a 32-28 loss to Summerland, Tramp rushed for 210 yards and four touchdowns on 44 carries.
Barrett Wilke | Stanton | QB – Wilke rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries in a 56-6 victory over Wausa/Osmond. Becker Pohlman rushed for four touchdowns in the rout for the Mustangs.
Six Man
Houston Billeter | Southwest | QB – Billeter accounted for six touchdowns in a 56-14 win over Harvard. For the second straight week, Billeter threw for five touchdowns and finished 6 of 11 through the air for 224 yards.
Grady Gorwill | Arthur County | RB – Gorwill rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns in a 64-25 win over Medicine Valley.
Dionicio Hernandez | Minatare | ATH – Hernandez rushed for 271 yards and five touchdowns on 25 carries in Minatare’s 39-4 win over Banner County.
Christian Torrez | Santee | QB – In a 58-33 loss to Parkview Christian, Torrez threw for 400 yards and five touchdowns.
