Preseason Defensive MVP

Millard South senior tight end prospect Chase Loftin has been named as NEBHSFB.com’s Preseason Offensive Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season.

Over the past two varsity seasons at Elkhorn North, Loftin hauled in 73 passes for 1,017 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a junior, Loftin scored six touchdowns while handling the punting and kickoff duties for the Class B semifinalist Wolves.

Loftin joins an explosive offense, loaded with talents such as a trio of juniors in quarterback Jett Thomalla, junior elite-level wide receiver prospects Amarion Jackson and DaShawn Prince, along with tight end Isaac Jensen. En route to the Class A semifinals in 2023, the Patriots averaged 37 points per game and 429.9 yards of offense.

Considered one of the top five overall prospects in the state of Nebraska for the Class of 2025, Loftin considered Nebraska, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M before settling on a verbal pledge to Florida State of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Millard South will travel to Chandler, AZ to take on Basha High School on August 30 to kick off the 2024 campaign, where the Patriots will be considered one of the favorites to knock off Omaha Westside in Class A.

Others heavily considered for the Preseason Offensive MVP honor were Millard South junior wide receiver Amarion Jackson, Lincoln Southwest receiver Jackson Carpenter, and Millard North athlete Caden VerMaas, who averaged nearly 11 yards every time he touched the ball as a junior for the Mustangs. Expect a more wide open attack to suit VerMaas’ skill set while he also contributes at defensive back. Offensive tackle prospects Garin Maley of Papillion-La Vista and Stanton’s Ren Brown, both Texas Tech pledges, were also considered.
