Boone Central scored all of its points in the second half en route winning its first state championship in program history since 2014 with a 12-0 win over Wahoo at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on November 21 in the Class C-1 state championship game.

Borer, considered a FCS prospect, eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards for the season in the victory with 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Wahoo’s defense held Boone Central to 173 rushing yards, over 100 below its season average of 276.3 coming into the state final. Borer’s 61-yard burst with 5:17 remaining in the game was the backbreaker for Wahoo.

The Cardinals, who finished 12-0 on the season going wire-to-wire as No. 1 in the state ratings, held Wahoo to 76 total yards. Boone Central allowed just two total yards in the second half in its seventh shutout of the season. Caden Stokes recorded 11 tackles, while Hank Hudson had nine tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Boone Central broke a 0-0 tie with 2:03 remaining in the third quarter when Parker Borer scored on an 11-yard touchdown run after a 12-play, 53-yard drive that covered nearly six minutes. The point after attempt failed, giving the Cardinals a 6-0 advantage.

With :17 remaining in the third quarter on the next possession, Wahoo fumbled on its own 9-yard line. A stingy Wahoo defense stepped up to block a field goal attempt, denying the Cardinals to keep the game within one score.

The two teams played to a scoreless deadlock in the first half with 152 total yards between them. Boone Central had a slight edge in total yardage with 78 yards in the opening half.
