2023 NSAA Class A Football State Championship Game
Omaha Westside 56, Elkhorn South 0

In emphatic fashion in the Class A state championship game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on November 21, Omaha Westside earned its rightful place amongst Nebraska high school football lore with a 56-0 victory over Elkhorn South.

After mowing over its opponents by a combined total of 643-46 this season, Omaha Westside has to be considered one of the best to ever do it in Nebraska high school football. Omaha Westside has won 20 straight games and won three of the last five large-school division state titles in Nebraska, participating in five straight finals. If the word dynasty is bandied about, it would be an accurate statement.

Quarterback Anthony Rezac, the top high school football player in the state over the past two seasons, did enough to ensure his team would win its second straight crown. Rezac completed 20-of-24 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown while adding two more touchdown runs. For his career, Rezac accounted for 8,055 total yards and 104 touchdowns while finishing with a 35-2 career record.

The criminally underrated signal caller, as usual, received plenty of help as Omaha Westside won its fifth state title in program history. A roster loaded with talent who will be playing on Saturday’s, Westside went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team pretty much unanimously statewide.

Omaha Westside stormed out to a 28-0 halftime lead behind two second quarter touchdown runs from Anthony Rezac. Elkhorn South committed three first half turnovers and was held to 74 yards of offense.

In the first quarter, Omaha Westside opened the scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Beau Ryan after a 13-play, 69-yard drive. After Will Bauerly’s extra point, Westside was in business with a 7-0 lead. National Top 150 junior linebacker Christian Jones a pass and ran it back 30 yards for a touchdown to extend Westside’s lead to 14-0.

Jahmez Ross rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns for Westside in the victory. Seven different Westside receivers caught passes. Nebraska pledge Caleb Benning caught six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown and added an interception on defense for Westside, while Trevor Spady and junior Keynan Cotton combined for nine grabs for 97 yards. Notre Dame commit Teddy Rezac led the defense with 10 tackles.

Elkhorn South finished the season with a 11-2 record and was held to 109 total yards.
