Semifinal Fun Facts

  • Omaha Westside has won 18 straight games and attempting to win back-to-back state titles. Should Westside defeat Millard West, it will be its fifth straight Class A state championship game appearance.
  • Elkhorn South, Class B winners in 2015 and 2016, have advanced to its second Class A semifinal in school history. The Storm finished as runners-up to Omaha Westside in 2020.
  • Two-time defending Class B champion and top-ranked Bennington is on a 37-game winning streak, one short of tying the Class B state record (McCook, 2002-04).
  • Elkhorn North advanced to the semifinals for the first time in school history in year four of the program.
  • Waverly looking for its first trip the state championship game since winning it in 1980.
  • Sidney’s trip to Wahoo for the C-1 semifinals covers 372 miles. The Red Raiders have never been to a state championship game in school history.
  • Wahoo’s only state championship in school history came in 2019 in a very dominant performance, outscoring its opponents 612-54.
  • Fillmore Central is searching for its first state final appearance since it was Geneva, C-1 state champions in 1990.
  • Howells and Dodge combined for 15 state championships before merging before the 2012 season, winning Class D-1 as Howells/Dodge in 2021.
  • Exeter-Milligan won back-to-back state titles in 2013 (D-1) and 2014 (D-2) before Friend was added to make Exeter-Milligan-Friend (EMF). 
  • Sandhills/Thedford has two state final appearances this decade (2020 and 2021 in Class D-2).
  • Wilcox-Hildreth (2018) and Parkview Christian (2022) are recent Six Man state champions with a shot at another in 2023.
