Nebraska HS Football 2023 Preseason 11-Man Player of the Year

Anthony Rezac | Omaha Westside | 6’4/200 | QB
To be the man, you have to beat the man.
“The Man” in this case is quarterback Anthony Rezac, who returns in 2023 with the hope of leading Omaha Westside to the Class A football promise land once again for its third state championship in four seasons. Since we are still in the business of deciding outcomes under the lights on Friday nights, without question, Rezac is the undoubted choice for Nebraska HS Football Preseason 11-Man Player of the Year.
Rezac threw for 2,239 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing 67.2 percent of his passes to a laundry list of talented pass catchers. Rezac is a true dual-threat option, powering his way to 1,118 rushing yards while rumbling for 19 more scores. When the chips were down, Rezac’s threat the running game increased. Westside wore people down with Rezac’s punishing but elusive running style being a major difference late in games.
To cap off his championship-winning season, Rezac earned First Team Super State honors according to the Lincoln Journal Star while also picking up First Team All-State honors according to the Omaha World-Herald. In the recruiting world Rezac is considered on the underrated side, with his three Football Bowl Subdivision offers coming from the three service academies due to Rezac’s elite level off-the-field character. There are many Ivy League schools in on Rezac due to his academic prowess.
Over the past two seasons, Rezac has thrown for 3,460 yards and 38 scores compared to just five interceptions to go along with 1,365 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Rezac and twin brother linebacker Teddy, a Notre Dame commit, are two major reasons why Omaha Westside can be considered the favorites to win Class A in 2023.
Targets like Caleb Benning, Preston Okafor, Omaha North transfer Ke’Vaughn Shannon, tight end Trevor Spady, his brother on occasion, junior Keynan Cotton, and elite Top 150 linebacker Christian Jones are worthy and capable of giving Rezac and a Westside offense that averaged 399 yards per game in 2022 legitimate firepower. Offensive linemen Broc Regner and Jackson Wing are just as crucial.
