Omaha Westside (9-1) 59, Papillion-La Vista (4-6) 21
– Junior quarterback Anthony Rezac accounted for 318 yards and four touchdowns as top-seeded Omaha Westside rolled to an opening round win of the Class A state playoffs. Jahmez Ross reached the end zone twice on a touchdown run and reception to pace Westside, while Tristan Alvano drilled a 57-yard field goal. Payton Prestito rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort for the Monarchs, who will be a team to watch for the Preseason Top 10 in 2023.
Lincoln Southwest (8-2) 31, Millard West (6-4) 17
– Cal Newell rushed for 213 yards and a touchdown as Lincoln Southwest advanced with its second win of the season over Millard West. Collin Fritton threw for two touchdowns to pace the Silver Hawks, including a 60-yard strike to Jack Baptista. Brady Brau returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give Millard West some life in the fourth quarter before Southwest closed out the game.
Grand Island (8-2) 35, Omaha North (6-4) 28
– Caleb Richardson rushed for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Grand Island came from behind the claim the home win over Omaha North. Cohen Evans threw for more than 220 yards and rushed for two touchdowns for the Islanders. Te’Shaun Porter rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns to round off an outstanding career for the Vikings, who finished 6-4 after losing three of its final four games.
Millard South (6-4) 35, Kearney (7-3) 21
– Camden Kozeal threw for a pair of scores, while Nolan Feller rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown as Millard South pulled the upset on the road. Brock Murtaugh had a huge game for the Patriots, who are 6-1 with Kozeal as the starting quarterback. Murtaugh caught six passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. After a solid season, Kearney finishes with a 7-3 record.
Gretna (10-0) 27, Lincoln Southeast (5-5) 24
– Gretna wins its 16th straight game, but just barely. Riley Egenberger rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Dragons after a relatively quiet night by Zane Flores, a least statistically. Lincoln Southeast junior quarterback Owen Baxter rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another in a losing effort.
Bellevue West (7-3) 42, Papillion-La Vista South (6-4) 20
– Daniel Kaelin threw for 264 yards and five touchdowns as Bellevue West downed Papillion-LaVista South for the second consecutive week. Isaiah McMorris caught nine passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns, while Clayton Gauff paced the Thunderbirds with 207 rushing yards. Devyn Jones rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown to cap off his career for Papillion-LaVista South, who finished 6-4 on the season.
Elkhorn South (10-0) 48, Lincoln East (5-5) 20
– Cole Ballard rushed for five touchdowns while junior quarterback Carson Rauner rushed for 246 yards, including a 66-yard run on the second play of the game for the unbeaten Storm.
Creighton Prep (7-3) 27, North Platte (6-4) 0
– Ezra Vedral ran for a pair of touchdowns while Chamar Brown rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown as Creighton Prep won on the road at North Platte. Brown’s lone touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Junior Jays a 10-0 lead heading into halftime. Kolten Tilford rushed for 112 yards on nine carries to lead the Bulldogs, who finish the season with a 6-4 record.
