Week 6 Preview

NEBHSFB Class A Game of the Week

No. 6 Bellevue West (4-2) at No. 2 Gretna (5-0)

Bellevue West has done a significant amount of damage on offense this season, averaging 42.2 points per game. Junior quarterback Daniel Kaelin is showing his Power 5 potential with 1,767 yards and 19 touchdowns. Fellow Power 5 prospect Dae’Vonn Hall has 539 yards and seven scores, while junior Isaiah McMorris might eventually see FBS interest come his way with 733 yards and eight touchdowns. Gio Contreras has been solid in the backfield, rushing for 509 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Oklahoma State pledge Zane Flores has Gretna on a 11-game winning streak. Rarely playing in the second half this season, Flores has thrown for 959 yards and 12 touchdowns. Junior Isaiah Weber has emerged for the Dragons, with 591 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Recent Wayne State commit Blayke Moore has two interceptions, with junior Alex Runge swiping three passes this season for Gretna.

NEBHSFB Class B, C-1, C-2 Game of the Week

B No. 2 Scottsbluff (4-1) at B No. 5 Waverly (4-1)
Scottsbluff has been battle-tested this season, including taking solid Class A squad North Platte to the wire in its only loss. The Bearcats run for as many yards as they travel miles in a season, which is part of life in the panhandle. Junior Sebastien Boyle has been as good as advertised, with 680 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Nebraska commit Brock Knutson has performed well up front as the Bearcats have rushed for 275.8 yards per game against stiff competition. Waverly has been worthy of its top five rating, rolling after a season-opening loss to No. 3 Elkhorn. The Vikings can hit you in many ways, with Trey Jackson passing for 727 yards and accounting for five touchdowns. Junior Evan Kastens has rushed for 412 yards and five touchdowns, while linebacker Cooper Skrobecki continues to play well for a defense allowing 9.8 points per game.

OLI

No. 8 Grand Island (4-1) at No. 5 Kearney (5-0) – Grand Island has a solid running game featuring Jace Chrisman, who is amongst the Class A leaders with 562 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Junior Justyce Hostetler has 50 tackles to lead the defense. The Islanders have a few tight games on their resume’, with this occasion perhaps being no different. Kearney has been flying high with an efficient passing game to a wealth of talented receiving options. Quarterback Treyven Beckman is currently fourth in Class A in passing with 973 yards and has 11 touchdowns this season.

C1 No. 5 Omaha Roncalli (4-1) at Platteview (4-1) – Omaha Roncalli‘s offense has been a problem for opponents this season as the Crimson Pride average 40.8 points per game with junior quarterback Brady McGill accounting for 1,124 yards and 14 touchdowns. Don’t judge Platteview for its only loss of the season to Aurora. The Trojans have a solid body of work and will be involved heavily in the postseason discussion. Quarterback Jared Kuhl has accounted for 1,079 total yards and 14 scores this season.
