Class A
Lincoln Southeast (3-2) 56, No. 8 Millard North (2-3) 35
– Max Buettenback rushed for three first half touchdowns, while his sophomore younger brother Cash rushed for another, as Lincoln Southeast rolled to a 56-35 victory over No. 8 Millard North.
The older Buettenback, who had 124 total yards in the first half, has emerged as a key threat in Southeast’s offense over the past three weeks as the Knights have won three games in a row.. Sophomore Pierre Allen Jr. intercepted a pass a raced 31 yards for a touchdown with 2:53 left before halftime as the Knights took a commanding 35-7 lead.
On the first play of the second half, JT Thielen rumbled 81 yards for a touchdown to give the Mustangs some life to cut the deficit to 21 points. With some momentum, Millard North fumbled it back to Lincoln Southeast on its next possession. Nebraska commit Gunnar Gottula jumped on top of the loose ball to thwart any Mustang rally. Max Buettenback’s fourth touchdown of the night with 8:26 remaining in the third quarter put the Knights up, 42-14.
Millard North answered again with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Evan Hansen to sophomore Pierce Mooberry to make it 42-21. Hansen then cut the score to 42-28 when he scored on a 33-yard touchdown run with 9:13 remaining in the game.
Max Buettenback kiboshed any thought of a late Millard North rally, returning the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown for his fifth touchdown of the night. The senior finished with 111 yards and four touchdowns on the ground for the Knights. Millard North pounded out 498 rushing yards in a losing effort. Thielen led the Mustangs with 194 yards, while sophomore Caden VerMaas added 182 yards and a touchdown.
Lincoln Southwest (4-1) 56 , Omaha Bryan (2-3) 0
– Collin Fritton threw for three touchdowns and added another on the ground in a comfortable Thursday afternoon win at Seacrest Field. Despite being one of the top receivers in Class A, Jack Baptista had not reached the end zone before Week 5. Baptista reeled in two touchdowns from Fritton in the victory and set school records in career receptions and receiving yards. Cal Newell rushed for two touchdowns as Southwest raced out to a 42-0 halftime lead. The Silver Hawks took advantage of five first half turnovers by the Bears. Trenton Sander intercepted two passes for Lincoln Southwest.
No. 4 Omaha North (4-1) 40, Omaha Central (1-4) 0
– Te’Shaun Porter, the leading rusher in Class A, rushed for three first half touchdowns as Omaha North cruised to a victory over an Omaha Central team with a bright future. Porter now has 13 rushing touchdowns this season. Sophomore Sebastian Circo threw a touchdown pass to Tre’Vionne Brown as part of an impressive first half for the fourth-ranked Vikings. Circo finished with 274 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Class B
Elkhorn North (4-1) 49, Omaha Westview (1-4) 6
– Elkhorn North took a commanding 35-6 halftime lead en route to the win. The Wolves moved to 3-1 on the season after losing to Grand Island Northwest in Week 4. Josh Basilevac threw for 195 yards and two scores and picked up another touchdown on the ground in the win. Sophomore Chase Loftin caught seven passes for 155 yards and a touchdown for the Wolves.
Class C-1
No. 1 Aurora (5-0) 54, St. Paul (1-3) 13
– Carlos Collazo rushed 269 yards and five touchdowns, including an 80-yard touchdown run, in the rout for the top-ranked Huskies. Collazo has four straight 200-yard rushing games and has surpassed 1,000 yards for the season for Aurora.
