Comments: First and foremost, the safety of young football players is the utmost priority. There is no reason to blame Omaha Buena Vista and Lincoln Northwest for cancelling varsity seasons to protect the players. However, the NSAA needs to seriously reevaluate their policies moving forward in an emergency manner to protect Gretna East and Lincoln Standing Bear from a similar fate in 2023. Neither school has any business attempting to field a varsity team next season. Unfortunately, the NSAA already has scheduled varsity competition for both schools next season and even assigned each to a district in Class B along with Buena Vista and Lincoln Northwest. If the NSAA does not act, we will inevitably be in the same situation a year from now. No new school should field a varsity team in any situation from here forward, which is customary in Texas. In fact in some situations in Texas, schools will play two years at “junior varsity” level before fielding a varsity team.

Comments: Nobody reads this stuff anyway. Norfolk Catholic is the clear cut No. 1 with most of its starters not playing past the first quarter over the past two wins. Depth will not be an issue for the Knights. Sorry, Malcolm. Malcolm, in hindsight, should have been in the Top 10 after its season-opening win over Yutan and now are up to No. 6 with a 4-0 record. Wahoo Neumann stays at No. 7 after a 44-34 loss to Hastings St. Cecilia, who are No. 4 this week. Wilber-Clatonia is down two spots to make room for Malcolm and to keep the Cavaliers at No. 7. No. 9 Mitchell is one of three unbeatens left at 4-0.
