Team Capsules

1. York Dukes
Head Coach: Glen Snodgrass
2021 Record: 5-5 (Off. Avg: 13.6 | Def. Avg: 21.5)
Postseason: Lost to Elkhorn in Class B first round, 35-0.
2022 Schedule: 8/26 vs. Lexington; 9/2 @ Hastings; 9/9 @ Bennington; 9/16 vs. Scottsbluff; 9/23 @ Waverly; 9/30 vs. Crete; 10/7 @ Seward; 10/14 vs. Lincoln Northwest; 10/21 vs. GI Northwest
Preview: State champions in 2017, York managed to qualify for the playoffs in 2021 after a two-year drought. With a solid nucleus coming back this season, bright days lie ahead for the Dukes. TE/DL Dalton Snodgrass (567 total yards, 3 receiving TD’s), OL/DL Kadence Velde (6’2/285), OL/DL Jude Collingham (6’6/300) are the top players on the roster for the Dukes. Junior DE Samson Broumley (6’3/220), sophomore WR Leyton Snodgrass (6’5/190), and sophomore OL/DL Mapieu Mapieu (6’6/285) are part of a talented group of underclassmen that also includes junior RB/LB Seth Erickson. (KLKN-8 Report)

2. Waverly Vikings
Head Coach: Reed Manstedt
2021 Record: 7-4 (Off. Avg: 33.3 | Def. Avg: 21.9)
Postseason: Lost to Bennington in Class B quarterfinals, 41-0.
2022 Schedule: 8/26 vs. Elkhorn; 9/2 @ Beatrice; 9/9 vs. Mount Michael; 9/16 @ Norris; 9/23 vs. York; 9/30 vs. Scottsbluff; 10/14 vs. Seward; 10/21 @ Lincoln Northwest
Preview: Waverly has qualified for the postseason in five straight seasons, winning a playoff game in the last four. Trey Jackson should take over at QB, while TE/LB Cooper Skrobecki (65 tackles, 9 TFL, 4 INT’s) and WR/DB Preston Harms join the signal caller as the top returnees for the Vikings. LB Kaleb Axmann should bolster the defense after a successful junior campaign. On paper, the schedule appears to be one of the more difficult ones in Class B. A successful program such as Waverly is capable of managing its slate. (KLKN-8 Report)

3. Seward Bluejays
Head Coach: Jamie Opfer
2021 Record: 8-3 (Off. Avg: 27.5 | Def. Avg: 23.4)
Postseason: Lost to Elkhorn in Class A quarterfinals, 35-20.
2022 Schedule: 8/26 @ Norris; 9/2 vs. Lincoln Pius X; 9/9 @ GI Northwest; 9/16 @ Hastings; 9/23 vs. Gering; 9/30 @ Lincoln Northwest; 10/7 vs. York; 10/14 @ Waverly; 10/21 vs. Beatrice
Preview: The 2001 Class B state champions gave Elkhorn a tough test in the state quarterfinals a year ago and led at halftime before falling, 35-20. Losing an All-State quarterback will be difficult for Seward, but expect the Bluejays to be in the thick of the playoff race once again out of District B-3. Expect WR/DB Micah Hackbart and QB/DB Kalen Knott to be the leaders for the Bluejays.(KLKN-8 Report)

4. Lincoln Northwest Falcons
Head Coach: Brian Lauck
2021 Record: First year varsity program
Postseason: N/A
2022 Schedule: 8/26 vs. Ralston; 9/2 vs. Elkhorn North; 9/9 @ Plattsmouth; 9/16 vs. Beatrice; 9/23 @ Norris; 9/30 vs. Seward; 10/7 @ Lexington; 10/14 @ York; 10/21 vs. Waverly
Preview: Lincoln Northwest is one of two capital city schools heading to Class B over the next two years with Standing Bear opening in the fall of 2023. Brian Lauck, who spent nine seasons as an assistant at Lincoln North Star, is tasked with starting the program. The Falcons will be inexperienced in year one and will look to establish a culture to build on. (KLKN-8 Report)
